⚡ BESCOM Bill Calculations

2025 BESCOM rates: LT-1 Residential: Fixed ₹120/kW + ₹5.90/unit (+36 paise surcharge from April 2025). LT-2 Educational: Fixed ₹180/kW + ₹7.25/unit. LT-3 Commercial: Fixed ₹210/kW + ₹8.00/unit. Rural rebate: 30 paise/unit.
Fixed charges are based on sanctioned load: LT-1: ₹120/kW (up to 50kW), ₹210/kW (above 50kW). LT-2: ₹180/kW (up to 50kW), ₹250/kW (above 50kW). LT-3: ₹210/kW (up to 50kW), ₹300/kW (above 50kW).
From April 1, 2025, KERC implemented a 36 paise per unit surcharge on all electricity bills. This is in addition to the base tariff rates and affects all consumer categories.
Sanctioned load is mentioned on your BESCOM bill in kW or HP. For conversion: 1 HP = 0.746 kW. Look for "Sanctioned Load" or "Connected Load" section on your bill.
FAC (Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment) charges are additional costs to recover fuel price variations. Currently around 31 paise per unit but can vary monthly based on fuel costs.

💚 Gruha Jyothi Scheme

Gruha Jyothi provides up to 200 units free electricity monthly based on your average consumption. If your average is below 200 units, you get free electricity up to your average. If consumption exceeds 200 units in any month, you pay the full bill for that month.
Eligibility: Karnataka residents with domestic LT-1 connections, Aadhaar linked to electricity account, one benefit per household. Over 1.72 crore families registered. Apply through Seva Sindhu portal.
If monthly consumption exceeds 200 units, you pay the entire bill for that month at standard rates. Only months with consumption ≤200 units and ≤ your average consumption are free.
For new connections without previous year data, the government provides 58-59 units free initially (53 units + 10% increase). After one year, your actual average will be calculated.
Yes, tenants can benefit from Gruha Jyothi scheme even if the meter is in the house owner's name, provided they meet other eligibility criteria and the connection is domestic.

📊 Connection Types

LT-1: Domestic/residential use (lowest rates). LT-2: Private educational institutions (medium rates). LT-3: Commercial/business use (highest rates). Each has different fixed charges and energy rates.
Yes, you can convert domestic to commercial connection by applying to BESCOM with required documents and paying applicable charges. Commercial rates will apply from conversion date.
Using domestic connection for commercial purposes violates BESCOM rules. Penalties include conversion to commercial rates retroactively plus penalty charges. It's better to apply for proper commercial connection.
Rural areas under Village Panchayats get 30 paise per unit rebate on energy charges. This rebate applies to all connection types in eligible rural areas as per KERC policy.
Higher sanctioned load allows running more appliances simultaneously but increases monthly fixed charges. Choose based on your actual requirement to avoid paying unnecessary fixed charges.

💡 Energy Savings

Tips: Use LED bulbs (80% energy saving), set AC to 24°C (6% saving per degree), unplug appliances when not in use, use natural lighting, regular appliance maintenance, consider solar rooftop panels.
Peak hours are typically 6 PM to 10 PM when demand is highest. Though Karnataka doesn't have time-of-day tariffs for most consumers, avoiding usage during peak hours helps grid stability.
Yes, Karnataka offers solar rooftop policies with net metering. You can sell excess solar power back to BESCOM. Various subsidies and financing options available for solar installations.
Energy-efficient appliances can reduce consumption by 20-30%. Star-rated ACs, refrigerators, and LED lighting provide significant savings over time with quick payback periods.
Average Karnataka household consumes 150-300 units monthly. Factors: family size, appliances, usage patterns. 1-2 people: 100-150 units, 3-4 people: 200-300 units, 5+ people: 350+ units.

🔧 Calculator Usage

Our calculator uses current KERC approved rates and BESCOM tariffs (updated April 2025). Accuracy is high for estimation purposes, but actual bills may have small variations due to additional charges or adjustments.
The calculator includes major components: fixed charges, energy charges, rural rebates, and Gruha Jyothi benefits. FAC charges (varies monthly) and taxes are noted but may not be fully included in estimates.
The calculator provides instant results but doesn't save data for privacy. Take screenshots or note calculations for future reference. All processing is done locally in your browser.
Differences may occur due to: exact meter readings, pending dues, monthly varying FAC charges, additional surcharges, billing period variations, or recent tariff changes not yet reflected.
We update rates when KERC announces changes. Current version reflects April 2025 updates including the 36 paise surcharge. Check BESCOM/KERC official sources for latest notifications.
